Our Saturday creative sessions will dive into the art of filmmaking, where we’ll break down the process from concept to screen. Each week, we'll engage in dynamic discussions, exploring everything from storytelling techniques to on-set strategies, all while preparing our young filmmakers to bring their collective vision to life. It’s an immersive journey into the heart of filmmaking!

STEP 1:

Weekly Sessions

Week 1: Story Development & Pre-Production

In the Story Development & Pre-Production module, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of filmmaking, including the key roles involved in production and the basics of storytelling. They'll learn the essential steps of scriptwriting, focusing on how to develop compelling story ideas, structure a narrative, and write a script that effectively communicates their vision. This foundation sets the stage for the production process, allowing students to plan their projects with confidence and creativity.

Week 2: Camera & Production Basics

In Week 2, students will dive into Camera & Production Basics, where they'll gain hands-on experience with the essential tools of filmmaking. Each student will have the opportunity to practice operating a camera, learning key techniques such as adjusting ISO, setting focus, balancing white balance, and controlling exposure. These skills are crucial for capturing high-quality footage, and this practical training will help students build confidence in their ability to handle a camera during production.

Week 3: Shooting the Scene

In Week 3, students will focus on Shooting the Scene, learning how to create and organize a shot list to plan their filming process. They will understand the importance of shot composition and sequencing, ensuring each scene is captured effectively. The class will review shot lists together and practice setting up for filming, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in executing their plans and ensuring every shot contributes to the storytelling.

Week 4: Editing Basics

In Week 4, students will be introduced to the basics of editing, learning how to navigate editing software and understand the editing workflow. They'll gain hands-on experience with the tools and techniques used to cut, arrange, and refine their footage. This module will give students the foundational knowledge needed to turn raw footage into a polished final product, focusing on the key steps involved in editing and enhancing their storytelling through visuals and sound.

Week 5: Finalizing & Showcase

In Week 5, students will focus on finalizing the edited production, reviewing the final touches to the short film, including color correction and sound design. This week culminates all the skills learned in the previous weeks as students refine the film and prepare it for showcase. The class will review the final short film together, celebrating each student's contribution. At the end of the session, each student will receive a copy of the class group film to take home as a lasting memory of their hard work and creative journey.
